The Wild Romance Story of Elvis and Priscilla Presley

Almost unbelievable though that was, the plot of Priscilla narrates how Elvis and Priscilla fell in love.

The shiest girl ever in this planet got linked up with the hugest celeb on earth, and he took her away from her folks into the insane life of his! She was 14 and he was 24 when they first started dating. She became a girl that all other women craved to be like him, she made them envied with one girl. He became the world to her.

According to Priscilla, it was not until much later that everything about him began to turn ugly. While explaining her feelings towards his shortcomings, she stated that “he became my father, my husband…and almost turned into God”, as quoted in her memoir, Elvis & Me Thus, as she penned in her autobiography, “she was blinded by love”.

Academy Award winning writer-director Sofia Coppola – who adapted the script from Elvis and Me and got advice from Priscilla – portrays the tricky relationship from Priscilla’s standpoint.

The relationship between them is demonstrated by Copolla but he does not avoid the obscure aspects such as Elvis’s hot tempered nature and being unfaithful.

Priscilla was married to Elvis for some fourteen years until they separated. These are some notable events in their turbulent relationship.

A teenager, Priscilla relocated to Graceland.

In 1959, Elvis traveled to West Germany, where Priscilla Beaulieu was employed as a U.S. Air Force captain by her stepfather. Elvis was stationed nearby. In 1957, at the age of thirty-seven, he was enlisted into the U.S. Army.

After meeting at a party, the two got involved in a then-chaste romance. Priscilla stated, “I was more of a listener,” prior to the movie’s September Venice Film Festival debut. “Elvis would give me everything he had.”

Following his discharge in 1960, Elvis and Priscilla spoke over the phone for two years before he extended an invitation for her to come see him in the United States. She made two trips, giving her a close-up view of his extravagant lifestyle, which included excursions to Las Vegas, dozing off all day, and swallowing drugs.

He then extended an invitation for her to stay at his Memphis estate, Graceland. Elvis and Priscilla persuaded her parents, who were initially apprehensive, to agree, and they did. She remembered that “I might never forgive them” if they hadn’t.

In an attempt to calm the Beaulieus, Priscilla first resided down the street from Graceland with Vernon and Dee, Elvis’s father and stepmother, but she still spent evenings at the storied home.

She turned become his “doll”

By day, Priscilla was a student in the nearby Immaculate Conception all-girls high school. She was Elvis’s pupil by night.

This is also evident in their extravagant shopping sprees, where Elvis treated her as he purchased a lot of presents for her. Priscilla says he preferred solid coloured clothes (no prints) and for her not to cut her hair “I got corrected any time when I did something he disliked,” she added.

His anger was so fierce that it created scaring moments.

In one scene, a playful pillow fight turns ugly when Elvis — medicated by Quaaludes to fall asleep, and Dexedrine to wake up — gets angry.

Priscilla claims she got a black eye, bruised arm, with eerie suspicion that Elvis might have been dealing with the drug habit.

Priscilla played a very crucial role in actualising the book into reality. According to producer Youree Henry during movie’s NYFF premier in August it was not uncommon for Coppola to “sort of disappear”, but she always talked it over with her wife Priscilla, and went through the script.

Elvis requested a divorce while she was expecting

It frightened Priscilla that she became pregnant so rapidly. In Elvis and Me, she writes, “I was still unsure about how my unexpected pregnancy would affect our marriage.” “We were meant to have this time to ourselves.”

Elvis had different plans. He stated that he desired some time away when Priscilla was in her third trimester. Two days later, he had second thoughts.

Both Elvis Presley and Priscilla cheated.

Priscilla discovered that Elvis and actress Anita Wood had a close communication early in their relationship.

Subsequently, his relationships with costars like Ann-Margret from Viva Las Vegas were covered by the media. Arguments would break out if Priscilla brought up his cheating.

She said to PEOPLE in 2021, “I always had an eye on him because everyone in the world was after him.” She said in Elvis and Me that she was so upset at one time that she thought about killing herself.

Even though Priscilla felt deceived, she had her own extramarital affairs with Mike Stone, her karate instructor, and a dancing teacher.

Priscilla was frustrated that Elvis had stopped having sex with her after she gave birth to their only child, Lisa Marie, who passed away in January at the age of 54.

The brief liaisons are not shown in the film, but they were a turning point for Priscilla as she began to come into her own.

Elvis finally parted ways with her in 1972, five years before to his death at age 42 from cardiac arrest. She did, however, never stop loving him. She said to PEOPLE that although their life together “was different, it was ours.”
