Chuck Schumer, the leader of the US Senate, has asked the government to look into an energy drink that was promoted by Logan Paul and KSI, two well-known YouTubers
Despite the beverage’s high caffeine content, Mr. Schumer claims it is being sold to children.
Each can of Prime Energy has almost twice as much caffeine as Red Bull, a rival energy drink.
There is a warning label on each beverage stating that it should not be consumed by anyone under the age of 18.
Mr. Schumer, on the other hand, claimed that Prime Energy was packaged and marketed “in nearly identical form” as a brand-name beverage devoid of caffeine.
He told reporters in New York on Sunday that as a result, some parents had purchased the caffeinated beverage for their children without realizing it.
He added later on Twitter, “The FDA [Food and Drug Administration] must investigate PRIME for its absurd caffeine content and its social media marketing targeting kids.”
Prime didn’t quickly answer a BBC demand for input.
The caffeine-free Hydration drink was introduced in 2022 by Logan Paul and KSI, who have approximately 48 million YouTube followers each.
It quickly became a big deal online, leading to long lines and even people diving headfirst into store shelves.
In January of this year, the caffeinated Energy drink went on sale. It is advanced by the organization as being without sugar and vegetarian.
The drink is not recommended for people under the age of 18, people who are sensitive to caffeine, pregnant women, or women who are breastfeeding, according to a warning on each can.
energy drink beverages have either been outlawed or warned about in some schools around the world.
After a student fell ill outside of school hours, the Milton Primary School in Newport, Wales, sent a message to parents cautioning them not to mix the caffeinated and non-caffeinated versions of the drink.
Energy drinks were outlawed at Maryborough State High School in Queensland, Australia, at the same time.
In a Facebook post, the school stated, “There are some new energy or hydration drinks that have recently hit the market… some of which have 4 TIMES the caffeine or stimulant as’regular’ energy drinks.”
It went on to say that “these can cause significant concerns in students with (potentially unidentified) health issues.”
Is Prime energy drink causing problems in playgrounds?
Yes, this energy drink is causing problems in playgrounds. The drink is marketed to adults, but it is becoming increasingly popular among school-aged children. This is due in part to the fact that the drink is endorsed by popular YouTubers and celebrities.
There have been reports of children experiencing negative side effects after drinking Prime energy drink, such as anxiety, insomnia, and headaches. In some cases, children have even been hospitalized after drinking the drink.
Schools are starting to ban energy drink from their campuses due to concerns about the safety of the drink and the negative impact it is having on students. In some cases, children have been caught selling or trading Prime energy drink in the schoolyard.
Parents are also being warned about the dangers of Prime energy drink for children. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that children under the age of 12 should not consume energy drinks. The AAP cites concerns about the high caffeine content of energy drinks, which can lead to a number of health problems in children, including:
- Increased heart rate
- High blood pressure
If you are concerned about your child’s exposure to Prime energy drink, you should talk to your child’s doctor. You can also contact the school to see if they have banned the drink from campus.
