In the special counsel Jack Smith’s investigation into the improper handling of classified documents from the Trump White House, an aide to former President Donald Trump has been indicted.
Walt Nauta’s prosecution is the second in the exceptional advice’s examination. According to the indictment, which was unsealed on Friday, Trump has been indicted on 37 counts, including charges related to the willful retention of national defense information.
Six charges are leveled against Nauta for the alleged behavior, including a number of charges related to obstruction and concealment.

Before Trump gave 15 boxes to the National Archives in 2022, he allegedly falsely claimed that he was unaware of them being brought to Trump’s residence for his review.
But the indictment says that Nauta had helped move boxes from the storage room to Trump’s house.

Early on Friday, a Nauta attorney declined to comment. This week, Nauta and Trump were at Trump’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
Trump answered Nauta’s prosecution on his web-based entertainment Friday, expressing, “They are attempting to obliterate his life, similar to the existences of so many others, trusting that he will tear down ‘Trump.‘ He is a great patriot, brave, and strong. The FBI and DOJ are Bad!”

Before the FBI executed a search warrant on the Palm Beach property in August, Nauta moved the boxes with the assistance of a Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker.

Walt Nauta is a former US Navy veteran and aide to former President Donald Trump. He was indicted in June 2023 on six counts related to the mishandling of classified documents from the Trump White House.
Nauta was born in Agat, Guam, a US territory, in 1983. He enlisted in the US Navy in 2001 and served for 20 years, rising to the rank of Senior Chief Culinary Specialist. He retired from the Navy in September 2021.
In August 2021, Nauta was hired as an executive assistant to Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, Trump’s resort in Palm Beach, Florida. In this role, Nauta was responsible for transporting boxes of Trump’s belongings from the White House to Mar-a-Lago.
In January 2022, the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago and seized boxes of Trump’s belongings. The FBI was investigating whether Trump had mishandled classified documents.
In June 2023, a federal grand jury indicted Nauta on six counts related to the mishandling of classified documents. The indictment alleged that Nauta helped Trump move classified documents from the White House to Mar-a-Lago and that he lied to investigators about his role in the transfer of the documents.
Nauta has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is scheduled to go to trial in September 2023.
Nauta’s case is the latest in a series of legal challenges facing Trump. Trump has also been charged with inciting the January 6th attack on the US Capitol and with obstructing justice in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
